Pick a fun comp to learn the art. I went to the Chabre Open 2018 organised by Jocky Sanderson. Very well run.

My tips:

  • If I went again I would get there at least a week before and do some guided flying.

  • Make sure you understand lee side thermals and valley winds.

  • Be 100% familiar with your flight instruments especially entering waypoints and routes. Including entering manual waypoints.

  • Try and fly the course with others. Aim for goal but not to be first.

  • Have fun, don't try too hard.

  • It's a great way to fly new places with excellent weather advice, retrieves and lots of help from other pilots.
